Well, its the off-season and as always its a time of mixed emotion. The singular focus of racing gives way to the complexity of graduate school, getting back in touch with those friends who aren't obsessed with riding, and preparing, financially at least, for the next season. It's a time when those nagging injuries, physical and mental, can finally heal. Its a time to rest. Or so the theory goesÉ..

Its also a time of crisp fall days, of blinding gold and rustling leaves. Its cloudless skies and perfect weather; and after the stormy summer we've just come through, there's nothing I want more than to be on my bike, far from anywhere, marveling at yet another ideal day. So, I study late into the night. I teach classes early in the morning. I make students come to see me during those evening hours when they would rather be at the bar; all so I can have those precious few hours of perfection for myself and my bike, or my running shoes, or whatever else will take me away from the maddening world of cubicles and florescent lights. So much for resting.

Fall is also the time of Cyclo-cross racing, 45 minutes of exquisite suffering with fifty of your closest friends, and a lot of mud, and maybe some snow if you're lucky. Can't wait. This year's transition from summer to winter also heralds the beginning of something which is innovative, exciting, and at the same time long over due. Geargrinder.com seamlessly blends the Internet and mountainbiking, two of the fastest growing phenomenon in the world. It will take sponsors to the lucrative world of each, simultaneously; and offer anyone who dares a glimpse into the life of professional mountain biking. A voyeuristic perspective on the trials and tribulations that make up this intoxicating sport. We are obviously very excited and if you're willing to come along, we'll see you on the web!
